Does anyone else feel like December happened in the blink of an eye? The sheer amount of stuff we manage to cram into such a small period of time guarantees it flies by faster than any other time of the year.
That being said, my monthly decluttering list ended up much smaller than the previous months because I only spent the first week and last couple of days of the month focusing on decluttering my home.
Here are a few areas I chose to focus on during the Christmas season:
- The playroom
- The kitchen
- Kid’s closets
- Entryway closet
- Bathrooms
In each of these areas, I simply took a quick pass through to see if there were any obvious items that could be cleared out. This is typically my first piece of advice when starting any decluttering project, and the easiest way to make some quick decisions about what needs to go.
With a toddler and a baby, I’m currently finding it more difficult to set aside dedicated times for decluttering. This month I tried to just declutter as I went through my day. For example, if we were upstairs playing and folding laundry, I would take a quick inventory of items in each space or see if there was anything the kids had outgrown.
In no particular order, here is the list of what was decluttered this month.
- 2 baby onesies
- Pair of socks with a hole in it
- 2 infant swaddles
- 1 white bowl (chipped)
- Kid’s silicone plate
- Tea kettle
- 2 throw pillows
- 1 scarf
- 1 toque
- 9 face towels
- 2 old toothbrushes
- 1 baby book
- 3 old broken photo albums
- Old lotion
- 2 water bottles
- Popcorn popper
- Wire bowl
- 2 Decorative figurines
- 3 cups
- Vase
- Cookie cutters x5
- 3 pairs of mitts
- Stroller accessory
- Frying pan
- Salt and pepper shakers
- Pool toy
- Stuffed animal
Total Items Decluttered: 51 items!
Although this is a lot lower than previous month’s decluttering totals, I’m still so happy with the results! This is decluttering more than one item per day (and also I count decluttering anything just a win in general!)
To date, we’ve decluttered 296 items from our house in the past 3 months!
If you’re looking for some decluttering motivation to start off 2025, try keeping track of what you get rid of – it’s a fun way to turn decluttering into a little competition and to move toward a simpler home.
